This rare armchair was designed by the Polish (present-day) furniture designer Erich Dieckmann and manufactured by Bauhochschule in 1927.
Dieckmann was one of the preeminent furniture designers of the Bauhaus during its Weimar period and his designs still are among the most important of the 1920s/30s.

The Bauhochschule was the art school in Weimar and the renamed successor to the Bauhaus, when it moved to Dessau in 1925. Dieckmann remained in Weimar and shortly afterwards, he designed this armchair as part of a modular range of furniture, exemplifying function and standardization. Dieckmann’s furniture is characterized by hardwoods, cane matting and geometric frames with intersecting lines and planes, creating light, open structure, as Marcel Breuer talked about Dieckmann furniture in 1928.

本作は、現在のポーランド出身の家具デザイナー、エーリッヒ・ディックマン（Erich Dieckmann）によってデザインされ、1927年にヴァイマールのバウホーフシューレにて製作された非常に希少なアームチェア。

ディックマンは、バウハウスのヴァイマール期における最も優れた家具デザイナーのひとりであり、1920〜30年代を代表するデザインを数多く生み出しました。1925年にバウハウスがデッサウへ移転した際、その後継機関としてヴァイマールに設立された美術学校がバウホーフシューレであり、ディックマンはそのままヴァイマールに残り、本作を含むモジュール式家具シリーズをデザインしました。

このアームチェアは、機能性と標準化の理念を体現するものであり、ディックマンの特徴である無垢材、籐編み、幾何学的な構造体が見て取れます。交差する線と面によって構成される軽やかで開放的なデザインは、1928年にマルセル・ブロイヤーが言及した通り、ディックマンの家具の魅力でもあります。
